Biography
Marcello Vandelli (San Felice sul Panaro, August 28, 1958) is an Italian painter. Heavily influenced by Italian Pop Art, Vandelli’s painting employs—depending on the needs of the subject matter—languages ranging from realism to symbolism, enriched by the added dimension of Art Informel (abstract expressionism).
In May 2015, to commemorate the 2012 earthquakes, he exhibited the work Ancora Christi on the main façade of the Mirandola Town Hall in Piazza Costituente.
Notable exhibitions include:
Strati d’esistenza (2016) at the Legislative Assembly Palace of Emilia-Romagna, which included the subsequent donation of the work Amanti approssimativi.
La lingua geniale (2018), presented by Vittorio Sgarbi, who described Vandelli’s painting as "ultra-modern, extremely fluid and malleable, and unpredictable—at times resembling the more angelic Licini or the more fluid Schifano."
In December 2017, he was selected as the best artist at the Paolo Levi International Prize held in the Tiepolo Rooms in Milan. The event was presented by Paolo Levi, who described Vandelli as an "angelic maudit [cursed artist] who operates according to his own chromatic code—a material reflection of his inner restlessness"—and as "a completely unique figure on the contemporary Italian art scene, bucking trends by insisting on not selling his works." In November 2018, he donated the work "Nessuno si salva da solo" to the Oud Sint-Jan Museum in Bruges.
